## Team Overview [#overview]

The **Product Management** team in the Hardware Systems Department connects business strategy, customer requirements, engineering execution, and supplier ecosystems to guide the development of Mujin's hardware products.

Working closely with electronics, embedded software, manufacturing, quality, and global suppliers, the team defines what hardware should be built and ensures it can be successfully manufactured, certified, and supported throughout its operational lifecycle. The Hardware Systems Department takes products such as the **Mujin Controller** and related hardware platforms from initial concept through volume production and multi-year field support. Our work directly influences the hardware powering robotic automation systems deployed in warehouses, logistics centers, and factories worldwide.

## Tech Stack [#tech-stack]

**Product & System Planning**

- **Requirements Definition:** Translating customer operational needs and business strategy into actionable technical specifications
- **Lifecycle Management:** End-to-end product lifecycle management (PLM) from concept through volume manufacturing and sustaining engineering
- **Trade-Off Analysis:** Multi-dimensional trade-off analysis balancing electrical performance, thermal constraints, bill-of-materials cost, and schedule
- **Risk Mitigation:** Proactive supply chain risk assessment, second-sourcing qualification, and component obsolescence planning

**Hardware Systems & Production Knowledge**

- **Industrial Control Systems:** Architecture concepts for industrial edge controllers, fieldbus I/O, and real-time computing platforms
- **Electronics & Embedded Hardware:** Core principles of digital/analog circuitry, power distribution, and multi-layer PCB manufacturing

## Technical Challenges [#recent-projects]

**Global Supply Chain & Product Lifecycle Management**

**Challenge:** Industrial automation hardware requires multi-year lifecycles. Electronic components inevitably face end-of-life (EOL) notices, unexpected supplier disruptions, and global allocation constraints that threaten the continuous production of deployed robot controllers.

**Approach:** Work proactively with hardware engineering, global component distributors, and manufacturing partners to monitor bill-of-materials (BOM) health, qualify pin-compatible alternate components, execute strategic buffer buys, and evaluate redesign trade-offs.

**Impact:** Ensures unbroken production and field continuity for robot controllers deployed worldwide, eliminating costly customer downtime and supply chain shocks.

**Production & Certification Readiness**

**Challenge:** A functional engineering prototype is only the beginning. Transitioning complex industrial hardware into volume manufacturing requires aligning rigorous quality gates, vendor tolerances, and international industrial safety certifications (CE, UL, ISO/IEC) without slipping release schedules.

**Approach:** Drive cross-functional execution across electronics design, embedded firmware, manufacturing partners, and external certification bodies. Establish production test fixtures, define acceptance criteria, and resolve regulatory compliance gaps early.

**Impact:** Delivers a seamless transition from development to mass production, resulting in robust, fully certified hardware appliances that operate reliably in demanding customer environments.

## Who Will Enjoy and Excel on This Team [#who-will-thrive]

If you want to operate at the intersection of cutting-edge robotics hardware and real-world commercial delivery, the Product Management team in Hardware Systems offers a high-impact environment. You will excel and have the most fun here if you:

- **Enjoy Connecting Technology and Business:** You like understanding both deep technical details and broader product strategy, helping teams make informed decisions that balance engineering, operational, and customer needs.
- **Comfortable Working Across Multiple Disciplines:** You enjoy collaborating daily with circuit designers, embedded software engineers, manufacturing specialists, quality teams, and leadership.
- **Driven by Product Ownership:** You take pride in full-cycle accountability—guiding products through concept, bring-up, qualification, and long-term production rather than handing off at one stage.
- **Curious About Hardware Systems:** You don't need to be the deepest circuit layout specialist in the room, but you have a strong appetite for understanding how hardware systems work and how technical decisions impact overall product success.
- **Thrive in International Collaboration:** You enjoy working across cultures, global suppliers, and international partners to coordinate high-stakes hardware initiatives.

**Who Might Struggle on This Team**

- **Engineers seeking a purely isolated technical niche:** If you prefer focusing exclusively on one narrow technical task without engaging in broader system-level coordination, this cross-cutting product role will not be a good fit.
- **Individuals who dislike stakeholder coordination:** If frequent communication, negotiation, and cross-functional alignment feel draining, you will find our daily rhythm challenging.
- **Those uncomfortable with ambiguity:** If you require rigid, predefined step-by-step instructions rather than proactively driving clarity through complex, competing priorities, this environment will feel overwhelming.
- **Individuals with little interest in productization:** If you are interested solely in early-stage proofs-of-concept and have little enthusiasm for mass production, certification, and long-term reliability, our production focus will not align with your goals.
